Oakland Zoo, is the perfect destination for a day trip with your family. Learn about wildlife conservation, see amazing animals, or attend one of our many interactive and educational programs.
Nestled in the 525-acre Knowland Park in the Oakland Hills, the zoo houses more than 700 native and exotic animals. The exhibits are organized geographically and reflect the ecosystems of the animals’ native habitats. Visitors can enjoy rotating cultural exhibits in the education center, and kids will love the new butterfly garden and the rides area, with a roller coaster, an endangered species carousel, and a train. A gondola ride with unparalleled views of the Bay Area will take you up the hill The California Trail, including native species such as the Grizzly Bears, Grey Wolves, Bison and more!
How to buy the tickets & Admission Process?
We are excited to offer Bay Area families a safe place for recreation and education. It’s our continuing priority to protect the health and safety of our guests, staff, and animals; and with the changing times, we’ve made some changes to our COVID-19 safety protocols as outlined below.
Please remember that we continue to operate with a daily limited capacity, so member reservations or tickets may not always be available for your preferred day or time.

Current Protocols for Visiting Oakland Zoo
Please review the following information before you make reservations or purchase tickets for your visit.
Member reservations and ticket purchases are required in advance.
Members are required to reserve timed tickets for entry before 2pm. Members can visit after 2pm without a reservation. For current Zoo Hours, including when the entrance closes and when the Zoo is cleared, please visit our Hours & Pricing page.
- Before you leave home, print your tickets and parking pass. Be ready to present them at the Zoo entrance gate.
- If you are unable to print your ticket and parking pass, download the PDF on your phone before you leave home as cell service is spotty at the zoo.
Review face mask rules for vaccinated and unvaccinated guests.

- Unvaccinated individuals MUST wear a face mask at all times when visiting the Zoo, except when actively eating or drinking. This includes all children age 2 and older not yet eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine.
- Fully vaccinated individuals may choose not to wear a mask outdoors at the Zoo. Masks must be worn indoors. We recommend everyone wears masks in any outdoor area at the Zoo where people are close to each other.
- IMPORTANT: If you arrive without a facial mask, you will be required to purchase one.

Snacks, entrees, beverages, and water are available for purchase.
- The Landing Café, Tuskers Grill, and Savanna’s Edge are open.
- Tuskers Grill & The Landing Café accept online orders for takeout food and beverages, making it easy to plan ahead.
- Drinking fountains are closed; however, water filling stations are open at the Main Entrance, California Trail and the Children’s Zoo.
Advanced Member Reservations and Ticket Purchase Required
General admission guests must reserve a ticket for a specific date and entry time in advance of your visit. Members must make a reservation for entry before 2pm. Before you make a reservation or purchase a ticket, please read the guidelines above.

#NoToPlastic Community Clean-Ups
Join Oakland Zoo in Taking Action for whales, sea turtles, shorebirds and all native Wildlife! Volunteers meet at the Zoo and ride the Zoo Shuttle to a local bay-destined waterway to remove trash, including the ever-abundant plastics that harms and kills our seabirds, turtles, fish and more.
Winter Break ZooCamp
We’re excited to offer two 4-day sessions of Winter Break ZooCamp! Enjoy group games, free play, animal interactions, and whole-camp activities like song sessions and big games. Registration opens Wednesday, December 1 at 10am.
